Last month we spoke to Consumer Credit Compliance’s (CCC) Operations Director, Helen Garnham. Helen said of the team at CCC that they “bring a vast array of diverse knowledge, skills and experience to the table” so we are turning our attention to the brilliant team at CCC, starting with Risk & Compliance Monitoring Manager, Ian Newbury.

How long have you been at CCC?
    4 years this March.

What is your favourite thing about working at CCC?
My colleagues without a doubt. We all work together as a team to achieve the best possible outcomes for our Appointed Representatives and their consumers. We wouldn’t be where we are as a business without any one of them.

    What does your role entail?
Mainly oversight, ensuring that our ARs are conducting their regulated business in a manner the FCA would be happy with.

What’s your favourite aspect of your role?
Challenging ARs during monthly face to face meetings and witnessing first hand their open/honest answers, which demonstrates to me their commitment around compliance matters and ultimately the fair treatment of their customers.

What is something that a firm looking to become an AR needs to know?
That as challenging as our onboarding process is, our monitoring regime means you’re always kept on your toes and requires an ongoing commitment to compliance.

    What’s your proudest professional achievement?
Representing the Yorkshire and the Humber region at national Chartered Trading Standards Institute meetings.

What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
Too many to list as time off is precious, however I like nothing more than to cook a good spicy curry from scratch, grinding down whole spices and even blending my own masalas.

What was the last movie you watched?
I honestly can’t remember (maybe it’s an age thing) but I know I’ve got a few waiting to be watched such as Belfast & Top Gun Maverick. My “watching” regime mainly revolves round weird and wonderful YouTube content these days.

    What’s your favourite cuisine?
Indian food but more specifically Pakistani/Kashmiri regional dishes would have to be my all time favourite.

What are you most looking forward to for 2023?
    Christmas!
